About SnapZyn
SnapZyn is a local-first Chrome extension that turns every screenshot you take into a searchable, AI-indexed note. OCR runs on your device, your images never leave your browser, and you can press ⌘J to ask your whole screenshot library anything.
Why it exists
It started with a simple, embarrassing problem: a Downloads folder full of hundreds of screenshots — error messages, pricing pages, design references, receipts — that were impossible to find again. The average person takes 312 screenshots and reopens almost none of them. They become a graveyard, not a memory.
The tools that promised to fix this were all locked to one place — Microsoft Recall to Windows Copilot+ PCs, Pixel Screenshots to Pixel phones, Apple's Visual Intelligence to Apple devices — and several of them worked by quietly recording your screen in the background. SnapZyn takes the opposite approach: nothing is captured unless you choose to, everything stays on your device, and AI only runs when you ask.
Who builds it
SnapZyn is built and maintained by Lakshman, a solo developer. There's no big team and no investor pressure — just one person who got tired of losing screenshots and decided to fix it properly, in the open. You can follow the work on X or reach out any time at support@snapzyn.com.
What I believe
Your screenshots are yours. Full-resolution images never leave your device. Only extracted text is sent when you use an AI feature, and sensitive data — emails, API keys, cards — is redacted locally first. Read the full breakdown in the Privacy Policy.
